Chamber Corner: Voting Day, Banquet, WOW

I saw several people working in their yards, cleaning up leaves and branches, over the past few days. Another sign that spring and warmer weather is coming!

With that said, a couple of March dates to take note of.

First, go out and vote on Tuesday, March 20th. Besides the regular primary elections, a vote on a new Bureau County jail and the school referendum are on the ballot. No matter what side you fall on when it comes to our school district, it’s important to vote. It’s your right to do so, exercise it. No matter the outcome, my hope is that when the votes are tallied and the election is over, both sides of the argument will unite and move forward for our students.

The second date is Monday, March 26th. That is the date of our annual Chamber Banquet at Konz. The evening will start at 6 p.m. with dinner, followed by recognition for this year’s Hall of Fame and Making a Difference Award. Also Working on Walnut committee members will be the guest speakers for the evening. Cost is $20 per person or $35 per couple. Let me know if you plan on coming.

We had our Chamber meeting at the Country Club last Tuesday night. We really have a great group of people involved in the Chamber with now. All bring different and unique ideas to the table, but all have one thing in common: they love our town and volunteer their time to make it better.

Speaking of dedicated volunteers, WOW has formed a sub-committee to work alongside the village board to try and come up with a resolution for the Fritz building on Main Street. I am not on the committee but was told it was a great first meeting and progress has begun. The committee is looking at ALL options for the building and the removal of the fence.

That’s it for this week. Get your membership dues in if you haven’t already. Shop Walnut whenever you can.
