Chamber Corner: Good Things Happening in Walnut

I don’t know if you have realized but there are a lot of good things happening in Walnut.

TCI just broke ground on their 5th expansion project in 19 years. It’s expansion will be a 30,000 square foot structure just west of their current location. They are also expanding their office with a two-story addition and are working with V&C Construction on that project. Congratulations TCI on their success and the quality work they do.

More great news from that is 20+ loads of dirt from that expansion project were brought and dumped at the future of Liberty Square on Main Street. All the dirt was donated by TCI, which saved the Liberty Square Committee thousands of dollars. Also, thank you to Harry Guither and Guither Tree Service for leveling the dirt. The next step now is seeding the area as the planning for that space continues.

Speaking of Liberty Square, the Chamber recently donated $4,000 to that project. This came from proceeds made from Fall Fest on Main 2018. We think that the planned structure going in that space will be a great addition to downtown. We also couldn’t think of a better way to spend our money than to donate it to a focal point of the future of Fall Fest. That Committee has put in countless hours of volunteer time for that space and I can assure you every detail has been analyzed. Thank to the Liberty Square Committee.

If you would like to keep up with the Liberty Square project, you can now view the website for the project at walnutillinois.com/libertysquare, check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/walnutlibertysquare or follow updates in The Walnut Leader.

As for Fall Fest, we are deep in planning mode. After all, October is only a couple of months away. All the events that you have enjoyed in the past with Fall Fest will be back, plus some new additions. Bands have been booked and vendors are being lined up. We will be releasing information soon, but I can tell you to mark October 5th on your calendar for this year’s festival. Also, don’t miss Fall Fest Eve on October 4th where we will host the popular Chili Cook-Off and Pie Baking Contest.

That’s it for this week. Shop Walnut whenever you can!
